Nowadays it feels like you need a degree in chemistry In the past, pool maintenance was straightforward, relying on just chlorine and muriatic acid. Colored masonry pool resurfacing typically requires a two-week start-up process called a “Low alkalinity burn” or a “Hot Start.” The process normally involves your pool company pouring muriatic acid into your pool to burn the leaching calcium off the curing masonry. If your pH level is off-kilter or the alkalinity levels turn too high or too low, then you’ll begin to see algae, a cloudy appearance in the water, or calcium deposits. The temperature of the water can also contribute to this as well.
